A LETTER WRAPPED IN LIGHT

A Birthday Letter from Leann to Her Dearest Friend

“For the friend who changed my life—quietly, deeply, and without asking for anything in return.”

 Introduction

Some friendships leave quiet imprints on the heart—deep, enduring, and impossible to forget. Leann had one of those. Her connection with someone she fondly called “best Lolo” was more than just companionship; it was a source of inspiration, comfort, and emotional growth.

On his birthday, Leann chose to write a letter. Not a grand gesture, not a lavish gift—but a message woven with honesty, love, and vulnerability. It was a reflection on friendship, boundaries, and the bittersweet ache of caring deeply.

Leann’s Letter

My Dearest Best Lolo,

Hello! I hope everything is well by the time you read this. As for me, I’m doing fine.

I truly hope this message reaches you on your birthday. It may not be much, and perhaps it holds no material value, but I wrote it with love—for someone I consider special and my best friend. As I’ve said before, I don’t have anything fancy to give you, no expensive gift to offer. But my love, care, and prayers are always with you.

There’s so much I want to say, but I struggle to find the right words—or maybe you wouldn’t understand. Still, I’ll try. I want you to know how grateful I am to have you as a friend—someone who remains the same even when circumstances change.

Sometimes, though, I feel guilty. I overthink things to the point where I start avoiding you, even though it hurts. I know it’s not right to stay close to you now that you’re married. I feel guilty toward your wife—it’s unfair to her that I’m still close to you, as if I’m taking attention that should be hers. Maybe I’m unknowingly causing trouble, and I never want to be the reason your family is affected.

I believe that true friendship has no boundaries—it’s built on trust and love. But I still worry. So if I ever cause you trouble, please tell me honestly. I’ll be the one to step back. I never want to hurt anyone because of my presence. I couldn’t bear the thought of causing pain.

Please promise me that if I ever make things difficult, you’ll tell me. I’m not a mind reader, and I’d rather hear the truth than feel like I’m being avoided. Just be honest, so we can both have peace of mind. That way, if we meet again, we can still smile and say hello—not ignore each other like strangers.

Honestly, I’ve learned so much from you through our everyday conversations. You’ve inspired me in countless ways—even to write poems. I think most of them were written for you.

Thank you—for always being there.
You lift me up when I’m down.
You calm me when I’m angry.
You make me smile when I cry.
When I’m stressed at work, just messaging you and reading your reply helps me relax.

You’ve always given me hope, encouraged me to chase my dreams, and listened patiently to my endless stories, complaints, and creative thoughts. You’re the person I trust the most, and I feel safe sharing everything with you because I know you never judge me.

“Thank you” doesn’t feel enough to express how lucky and grateful I am to have you in my life. I know I’ll never find another friend quite like you—suplado, unpredictable, and unforgettable. But I love that about you. No matter what happens, you’re someone I’ll never forget and could never ignore.

So, my dear best Lolo—Happy Birthday.
I wish you happiness, good health, and all the best life has to offer.
Take care always.

With love and care,
Leann

Poem: If I Ever Cross the Line

`
I never meant to stay too close,
But your presence feels like home.
Not in ways that break a vow,
Just in ways that calm my soul.

I know you're hers, and I respect
The life you've built, the love you've kept.
But sometimes I feel I steal too much—
Your time, your smile, your quiet trust.

I overthink, I pull away,
Though every step hurts more each day.
Not because I love you less,
But because I want what's truly best.

If ever I become the cause
Of silence, tension, or a pause—
Please tell me, I will understand.
I’ll step aside, I’ll let you stand.

But know this truth, it won’t erase:
You’ve left a mark I can’t replace.
You lift me up, you calm my storm,
You make the heavy moments warm.

You’ve taught me how to write again,
To dream, to speak, to feel, to mend.
And though I walk a careful line,
I’m grateful still that you were mine—

Not to own, but just to know,
To share a light, to help me grow.
So on your day, I wish you peace,
A love that lasts, a joy that’s deep.

And if we meet in passing years,
Let’s smile, not hide behind our fears.
For friendship, true, will always shine—
Even if I must stay behind.
`
